Therefore, I Am features the artwork of eleven recent graduates from the Art and Art History joint program between the University of Toronto and Sheridan College. In the Therefore, I Am FCP exhibition, the featured emerging artists meditate on why they create artwork in a digital age. They appropriate Rene Descartes’s dictum, “I think, therefore I am” and instead comment, “I think, therefore I create.”
Each artist uses their art to personally reconnect with their everyday experiences; whether it is a direct critique on social problems encountered, a method of self-discovery, or the exploration of the environment around them. Every connection is manipulated through their choice of medium and execution. Therefore, I Am will be showcasing over twenty multimedia works that varies from painting and silkscreen prints to video and performance.
100 King St West, Toronto
Gallery hours: 11:30 – 2:30, Monday – Friday
