YSDN Students Unveil Exhibition in 2017 Toronto Offsite Design Festival

Now in its 7th year, the Toronto Design Offsite Festival (TO DO) is Canada’s largest cultural celebration of design with over 100 exhibitions and events. Emphasizing the city as a hub for creativity, TO DO takes design and art out from the studio and into the urban sphere, bringing people together to celebrate contemporary culture. For the first time, this year the York University/Sheridan College Program in Design participated in the festival through an exhibition at Gallery 50. Sheridan Faculty, Students and Alumni win multiple awards with Craft Ontario

Since 1981, Craft Ontario has awarded their prestigious Craft Awards to recipients who have proven to be accomplished and dedicated practitioners in the field of craft and design. From makers that create innovative and exceptional work to curators, administrators, writers and volunteers who support the craft community, each recipient is recognized as an important contributor to contemporary craft practice. The program assists makers in various stages of their careers through professional recognition, as well as financial support for further training, studio development and supplies. This year, as part of their 40th anniversary celebration, Craft Ontario hosted an exhibition of recipient work that was on view at the John B. Aird Gallery. During the Ceremony, twenty outstanding recipients we awarded over $32,000. Read More

Sheridan Students announced as Semifinalists in the Adobe Design Achievement Awards

Since the competition began in 2001, more than 35,000 students across 76 countries have been involved. Industrial Design Students Win First Place in the Rethink Tires Competition at Artscape

OTS_ID Winners1This past weekend, a team of Sheridan’s second year Industrial Design students won first place in Rethink Tires, a design challenge sponsored by Ontario Tire Stewardship. Students were asked to address the needs of the Artscape building on Shaw Street in Toronto using recycled tire materials. The goal of the challenge is to ignite creativity and innovative environmental landscape architecture and industrial design while showcasing the aesthetics, functionality and high performance of Ontario tire-derived products. 

Sheridan’s team placed first in the Industrial Design category, winning a $3,000 scholarship. The group of four consists of Alexandra D’Oliveira, Patrick Marchent, Michael Mofina and Neil Smith.

Sheridan Illustration Students No Longer embarrassed to be “Embarrassed”

2D3A5238(3)The Embarrassment Show workshop is an approach to creative thinking developed by Dutch creative director, curator and artist Erik Kessels. Originally conducted with a group of 2nd year photography students in Switzerland, the Embarrassment Show has developed into a travelling exhibition. Earlier in May, the project was brought to Sheridan College’s Trafalgar campus for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year Illustration students. Kessels led a three-day workshop and oversaw the production of the final exhibition with Sheridan Illustration Professor/Coordinator Joe Morse.  Read More
