Sheridan Sun newspaper wins two Ontario Community Newspaper Awards
The Sheridan Sun newspaper has won two OCNA’s (Ontario Community Newspaper Awards) for Best Campus Paper and Best Campus Website (along with the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto.) This is the first time Sheridan’s Journalism Print program has been recognized in this category, and also the first time it was nominated. The OCNA’s are handed out to the best work by university and college newspapers outside of Toronto while honoring excellence in journalism. They are held once a year at a gala ceremony that brings together journalists, photographers, managing editors, publishers and sponsors. Newspapers competed against each other in similar circulation classes and were judged by a panel of industry experts.
Sheridan Journalism Print professor Kathy Muldoon said that the awards are result of terrific hard work from her students.
“It’s a total group effort from our first and second years. They were able to come together and decided to submit their work and it turns out they were recognized for their tremendous contributions in journalism,” she said.
Journalism professor Andrew Mitrovica tweeted out his sentiments following the announcement:
This year the awards will take place on May 16th 2015 at the Sheraton Hotel in Hamilton. Congratulations to Sheridan’s Journalism print class of 2015 for their tremendous hard work as well as program coordinator Nathan Mallett.
