Illustration graduate gets comic featured at TCAF
Sheridan Illustration graduate Steve Murray’s (also known as Chip Zdarsky, his pseudonym) latest comic titled Sex Criminals was featured at TCAF (Toronto Comics Arts Festival) this past weekend. Sex Criminals was declared number one on Time Magazine’s list of Top Ten Comics and Graphic Novels of 2013 saying “It’s a precision-tuned screwball comedy on its surface, and that surface is gorgeous, thanks to Zdarsky’s ace sense of design and inventive color technique. But it’s also genuinely insightful about the ways sexuality shapes people, and it doubles as a love letter to analog media —one that happens to have been banned by the iTunes store.” You can read more including reviews on the highly praised comic here.
Sex Criminals was nominated for two Eisner Awards in 2014 including Best Continuing Series and also won Best New Series. On February 25, 2015 it was announced that Matt Fraction, the comics lead writer, made a deal with Universal TV to turn the hit comic into a television show. TCAF is a week long celebration of comics and graphic novels and their creators, which culminates in a two-day exhibition and vendor fair featuring hundreds of comics creators from around the world.
In November 2014, Marvel Comics announced that Murray/Zdarsky will be writing a new Howard the Duck comic book series with Joe Quinones.
