Bachelor of Photography Students Create Artist Profiles
Fourth-year Bachelor of Photography student James Michael Chiang’s video was made as an independent study for one of his final projects. Michael was also was asked by his co-op placement company, Sons and Daughters, to create a portfolio piece which was more commercial than his more conceptual work.
Bachelor of Photography professor Meredith White said “We saw the value for his portfolio to let him approach communicating the Bachelor of Photography program from his perspective, we acted as a ‘client’. As faculty, we think it is sophisticated; says a lot without having to say it all and allows our audience (prospective students) to explore our environment. It is important that it is made by a student and its aesthetic is well chosen to represent values such as critical thinking, technology, different areas of study and our lab and studio environments. We also think it is good that it is student centered and faculty are invisible (our presence can be established using other communication tools).”
