Flower Power art installation at Sheridan courtyard
Bachelor of Illustration faculty Douglas Donald and Claire Ironside recently installed an art piece in the courtyard titled Flower Power. It represents an expression of a curriculum based project entitled “Joint Effort” they are teaching for the YSDN (York/Sheridan Design) 3D course. The project brief asks students to imagine, propose and communicate a project for installation in the A-Wing courtyard using photo montage, digital 3D modeling and small scale sketch models to convey their idea. The flower form featured in the work is by Emily Wiebe, a student who completed the course during the winter term.
“Flower Power” serves to activate and enliven the courtyard as a place of exhibition and hopes to provide students, currently enrolled in the 3D design course, a full scale working example of what is possible.
The work is comprised of pool noodles (two sizes), salvaged Coroplast, hula hoops, eight gauge wire, masking tape and push pins. The installation perfectly captures the time of year and the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design couldn’t be more proud to showcase this piece in our courtyard. Thanks to both Doug and Claire for their innovative work.
