Sheridan College has finished 11th in the top 20 school of the year list from Autodesk’s CG Student Awards. Points were awarded to each School based on data collected from entrants in Student of the Years (Games + VFX/Animation), Film of the Year, and Game of the Year categories.

The top 20 list was calculated based on the voting of over 1000 submissions of portfolios from students and recent graduates studying at 216 international schools. Sheridan was in good company in the top twenty, among schools including the Savannah College of Art and Design, the Vancouver Film School, and the Ringling College of Art and Design.

The judging panel based their votes on such criteria as creative skills, technical skills, presentation, raw talent and future potential.  “Having access to over 1,000 entries ranked from top –to-bottom by industry experts is an extremely powerful indicator of where the best talent is coming from on a global scale,” said Andrew McDonald, CG Student Awards Co-Founder.

Sheridan is renowned for its animation programming, which includes a Bachelor of Animation and post-graduate certificates in computer animation, visual effects and digital character animation.  In 2013, Sheridan introduced a Bachelor of Game Design program, which is already earning a reputation for excellence. This spring, students in the program undertook a special ‘Sprint Week’ challenge – to create and produce interactive games for the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.  “We were amazed by the creativity of the Sheridan Game Design students and the quality of the animations and interactive experiences they achieved,” said Dr. Elaine Biddiss of Holland Bloorview.
