On Tuesday, May 30, MPP for Oakville and Minister of Labour, the Honourable Kevin Flynn, invited Associate Dean and Canadian Music Theatre Project Producer, Michael Rubinoff and Irene Sankoff and David Hein, authors of Come From Away to Queen’s Park. As a supporter of Sheridan and Theatre Sheridan, Mr. Flynn and his wife Janice attended the very first workshop of Come From Away at Sheridan in 2012. Michael, Irene and David had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Flynn and the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the Honourable Michael Coteau, to discuss the success of Come From Away and the Canadian Music Theatre Project at Sheridan. Following the meeting Michael, Irene and David were invited to sit in the Member’s Gallery on the floor of the Ontario Legislature to observe question period. Prior to the start of question period, Mr. Flynn rose in the legislature to announce Come From Away’s success including its place as the fifth Canadian musical in history, to premiere on Broadway. He introduced the trio who were welcomed by a standing ovation from the Members. It was a very special day and honour to share this point of Sheridan pride down at Queen’s Park!
