York/Sheridan Design and Game Design students win top prizes in Adobe Spring Creative Jam and Adobe Design Achievement Awards 2019
Following their passion for design challenges and hackathons, third-year York/Sheridan Design student Thano Sipsis and Game Design student, Ata Dogan, entered the Adobe Spring Creative Jam in May 2019.
The Adobe Spring Creative Jam is a live online design competition that is open to post-secondary students across North America. The design challenge asked students to create an app within 48 hours that would benefit pet owners.
Drawing from the design thinking and design research tactics learned in their classes at Sheridan, Thano and Ata began the research process for their app by conducting interviews with pet owners. The idea for their app was inspired by Ata’s mom, who travels with their family pet from Canada to Turkey. After learning about the challenges of traveling with pets, Thano and Ata wanted their app to streamline the process.
Using User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design – Thano and Ata created Travapet, an app that helps pet owners by mapping out and simplifying the process of traveling with pets. This process includes obtaining vaccination proofs, filling out import documents, finding compatible airlines and booking flights. The app won first place in the Adobe Spring Creative Jam.

After their win at the Adobe Spring Creative Jam, they were encouraged to enter the Adobe Design Achievement Awards, an international design competition for post-secondary students. After submitting Travapet in June, Thano and Ata were chosen as the winners of the Top Talent and Adobe XD Prize.
As part of their prize, Thano and Ata won a trip to the Adobe MAX 2019 conference in Los Angeles on November 5. There, they participated in a video shoot and presented Travapet in an Adobe Spotlight Livestream:
Congratulations to Thano and Ata on their success!
